Welcome to the International Center for Performance Excellence (ICPE) website
The ICPE, a unit within the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (CPASS) at West Virginia University (WVU), was created in 2004 under the direction of Dr. Andrew C. Ostrow, professor emeritus of sport and exercise psychology at WVU and the ICPE’s first Director. Since its inception, the mission of the ICPE has been to support international educational initiatives by CPASS and promote awareness at the local, national, and international levels of the values and benefits of engaging in sport and physical activity.
This mission is accomplished by collaborating with CPASS and WVU to host international workshops and conferences in the sport sciences, encourage international faculty and student exchanges, and disseminate educational products to a global audience on the most recent research in sport sciences by international scholars through FiT Publishing (Formerly Fitness Information Technology), the publishing division of the ICPE.
I encourage you to browse FiT Publishing’s list of publications, which focus on the fields of athletic coaching education, physical education, sport management, sport and exercise psychology, and sport and cultural studies.
The globalization of sport has never been more evident than it is today, and the cross-cultural reach of sport continues to explode at the recreational, amateur, and professional levels. It is the goal of FiT Publishing to reflect this transition in the books and digital products that it publishes. Likewise, it is the goal of the International Center for Performance Excellence to better position the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences at West Virginia University in its ability to capitalize on this globalization and be recognized as a leader internationally in the sport science community.
